They are experienced professionals who support homeowners, residents and landlords to achieve their retrofit goals. They have to comply with British Standard PAS 2035 and are regulated by a government-endorsed TrustMark consumer protection scheme.

What are skills bootcamps?

Skills Bootcamps offer funded* flexible courses for up to 16 weeks, allowing people to build sector-specific skills and launch their careers in energy efficiency and retrofit roles. They are designed to ensure adults can retrain and upskill whatever their starting point, providing a clear line of site to a new role, opportunity or contract.

You will be eligible to apply if you can provide proof of residency in the Hertfordshire area. The Skills Bootcamps include flexible online guided learning designed to work around your schedule, workshops and assignments.

*Fully funded for unemployed, self-employed and career changers. For learners put forward by their company (co-funded) the employer pays match funding up to 10% for an SME (1-249 employees) and up to 30% for a Large Enterprise (250+ employees).

Clive Rowland - Lead Tutor

Clive has over 16 years’ experience in the retrofit industry, including energy assessments of existing and new build dwellings, thermal imaging, air pressure testing, building forensics, post occupancy evaluation and building performance monitoring. He co-wrote and delivered the training for one of the modules for the PAS 2035 Retrofit Co-ordinator qualification and was part of the advisory panel for the Green Deal Advisor National Occupational Standards.

Dominic Ives - Tutor

Dominic joined the Retrofit Academy in February 2024 as a Retrofit Skills Coach. Dominic has previously been working as a Retrofit Coordinator working on SHDF Wave 1 projects in the Southwest. He has worked as a natural builder working with cob as well in conventional construction and renovation. Further experience and study have focused on practical sustainability, arboriculture and horticulture. Dominic is currently also studying an MSc part time in Green Building and has keen interests in ultra-low energy buildings, natural materials and domestic energy.

The AIM Qualifications Level 5 Diploma in Retrofit Coordination & Risk Management features twelve modules along with a comprehensive case study. Each module features extensive teaching materials, expert presentations, case studies and activities that are designed to give you an in-depth understanding of both theory and practice.

  12. Post Retrofit Testing, Monitoring and Evaluation

All learners successfully passing the assessments will be recommended for the award of the Level 5
Diploma in Retrofit Coordination and Risk Management from AIM Qualifications, an Ofqual-regulated
Awarding Body.

You will be eligible to apply if:

  • You can provide proof of residency in the Hertfordshire area.
  • You are aged 18 and over.
  • Have a stable internet connection.
  • Have access to a desktop or laptop computer. 

All learners are assigned to one of The Retrofit Academy’s skills coaches who will provide guidance and feedback on all of your assessments. All skills coaches are graduates from the Level 5 Diploma, handpicked for their experience and expertise.

The course is assessed via:

  • End of module multiple choice tests
  • Short written assignments relating to the key learning objectives
  • A verbal presentation relating to the case study

Upon successful graduation of the Level 5 Diploma in Retrofit Coordination and Risk Management, learners who applied from the 1st July 2024 will be awarded Trustmark Accreditation for the role of Retrofit Coordinator through the new TRA/Sterling Accreditation scheme.

Upon graduation, you will become recognised as a Retrofit Academy Member at the appropriate level, often at Associate Level in your early years of practice. You can progress through Practitioner levels to ultimately apply for Retrofit Academy Fellowship.

The first 12 months are FREE post graduation. The ongoing membership fee is £195 plus VAT per year.

After you have completed the certified course, you will gain access to The Retrofit Academy Hub, providing:
