Course details

The UK’s older and traditional buildings are a vital part of our heritage, but they also present unique challenges when it comes to energy efficiency. The ABBE Level 3 Award in Energy Efficiency for Older and Traditional Buildings is designed to address these challenges by providing you with the knowledge and skills to improve energy performance while respecting the fabric and character of these buildings.

Derived from BS 7913: 2023 – Guide to the Conservation of Historic Buildings, this course develops awareness of older, traditional, and vulnerable buildings across the UK.

By the end of this course, you’ll be fully prepared and accredited to work on these invaluable projects, offering expert advice and recommendations for the careful integration of energy efficiency measures.

Clive Rowland - Lead Tutor

Clive has over 15 years’ experience in the retrofit industry, including energy assessments of existing and new build dwellings, thermal imaging, air pressure testing, building forensics, post occupancy evaluation and building performance monitoring. He co-wrote and delivered the training for one of the modules for the PAS 2035 Retrofit Co-ordinator qualification, and was part of the advisory panel for the Green Deal Advisor National Occupational Standards.

Alan Pither - Technical Director

Alan Pither has been professionally involved in energy efficiency assessment and advice since 1985. This includes the development of energy efficiency and climate change strategies, as well as building surveys and recommendations for energy efficiency improvement measures. The latter covers all types of buildings with the majority being large domestic properties that are being refurbished and/or extended, usually off the mains gas grid, so advice on alternative heating options is also needed. In addition to training, he offers a range of consultancy services to local authorities, housing associations and individual building owners.

Modules

The course consists of three in-depth modules, each designed to provide you with a thorough understanding of energy efficiency in older and traditional buildings:
